Youth AOD Support Service

Free, safe and confidential support for young people aged up to 25.

Going through a tough time with alcohol or other drugs?

You don’t have to figure it out on your own. Our Youth Support Service is here to help young people dealing with alcohol or drug use, whether it’s something you’re worried about, something a friend or family member is going through, or something you just want to talk about.

It’s free, private and you’re in control of what you share.

What we can help with

Our team works with you in a way that suits your life. We can help with things like:

  • One-on-one chats with a youth peer worker or counsellor and that can be in person, online or over the phone
  • Meeting you where you feel comfortable (at home, school, a café, or one of our hubs)
  • Group sessions with other young people (if that’s your thing)
  • Practical info about staying safer if you’re using
  • Support if you’re worried about overdose, including free Take-Home Naloxone (a medicine that can reverse an overdose)
  • Help getting clean equipment if you need it
  • Connecting you to other services like mental health, doctors or housing support
  • Help for your family or the people who care about you
  • Aftercare and ongoing check-ins so you’re not left on your own

We focus on your goals like whether that’s cutting back, stopping, staying safer, or just talking things through.

What happens on the first call or visit?

It’s just a chat. We’ll ask a bit about what’s going on for you and what kind of support you’re after. There’s no pressure, no judgement, and you don’t have to share anything you’re not ready to.

Do I need a referral?

Nope. You can call us yourself, or a friend or family member can call on your behalf. Just ring 1300 727 957 to book in.

We also take referrals from:

  • Parents, carers or family
  • Doctors (GPs) and other health workers
  • Schools and teachers
  • Youth workers
  • Mental health services
  • Government and community organisations
  • Youth justice workers

Is there a cost?
No, it’s completely free.

FAQs about this program

What you tell us stays between you and our team. There are only a few times we’d ever need to share something, like if you or someone else is in danger, and we’d always talk to you about it first.

Our service is for young people from 12 up to 25. If you’re not sure if it’s right for you, just give us a call and we’ll chat it through.

No. You don’t have to be ready to quit. Whether you want to cut down, stay safer, or just talk, we’re here for whatever stage you’re at with it.

Yes, totally. Bring someone you trust if that helps you feel more comfortable.

You can still call us. We can give you info, ideas on how to talk to your friend and support you through it too.

Not at all. Whether you’re using a little or a lot, or you’re just curious about your use we’re here. No problem is too small to talk about.

Yes. Our team works in a culturally safe way and we’ll do our best to connect you with workers and supports that feel right for you.

That’s okay. We can meet you somewhere else, chat online, or talk over the phone, whatever works best.

Call 1300 727 957 to book in. You can also ask someone you trust, like a parent, teacher or youth worker, to call with you or for you.
