Supporting people every day
Ruth is an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Counsellor, Case Manager and Group Facilitator for one of Lives Lived Well’s day rehabilitation programs in Caboolture.
Our day rehabilitation programs provide accessible support for individuals who either cannot attend a live-in service or prefer a day-based approach to treatment. Ruth finds fulfillment in helping clients feel safe, supported, and ready to make positive changes.
“I love when a client returns to tell us how they’re going and they’re kicking goals at life. And on the flip side, I love it when someone comes back because they need support – I know I’ve done a great job if they feel safe to come back and try again,” Ruth said.

Embracing new roles
Ruth began her journey with Lives Lived Well in 2018, working in the Breakthrough for Families program, where she supported family members and loved ones impacted by alcohol and drug use.
She transitioned to the AOD field during 2020 after working in the Reclaim Wellness program at a correctional centre and found herself loving it. She never saw herself in this field until then, but she absolutely loves her work now.
Engaging with others
Ruth’s main responsibilities include facilitating the day program and SMART Recovery groups for up to 15 people, both in-person and online.
Her role also involves conducting assessments, managing client intakes, providing counselling, handling enquiries and discharges, and engaging with external stakeholders.
Finding fulfillment
Outside of work, Ruth enjoys spending quality time with her adult children and granddaughter. She also finds joy in jigsaw puzzles, gardening, caring for her dogs, and exploring new activities.
When asked why she encourages others to consider a career at Lives Lived Well, Ruth highlights the positive work environment and opportunities for growth.
“It’s great to work with like-minded people. We also work in great conditions and have access to opportunities within the organisation such as training and secondments,” she said.
Her advice for someone considering a career in her field?
“Give it a go! You might enjoy it more than you think – and there’s never a dull day.”
