Opening of Strong Communities
Life at LLWToday is an exciting day, with the opening of our new (and first) Northern NSW service, The Strong Community Program, in Lismore.
The service will be providing mental health and wellbeing support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 12+ from across the Northern Rivers Region.
As the collage of photos highlight, the many communities of this region are still faced with the devastation and impacts of the floods of 2022.
We have recruited a wonderful team of passionate counsellors and an administration officer, who will be led by Jody and Canditta.
The new team started with LLW in early January and have hit the ground running to get the service ready for opening.
We have been fortunate to attract team members who have grown up and/or lived in the region for many years and understand the unique challenges facing the area following the devastating floods of 2022.
Our staff are also very well connected to the local Aboriginal communities and bring significant cultural and local knowledge.
We still have 2 more positions to recruit into with that looking good and positive for new staff to start shortly.
I would like to thank the many people across LLW who have helped to make this new service a reality. So many people have “showed up and shared”!
Thank you everyone for a fantastic team effort.
In particular, thanks to Jody and Candy for your dedication, enthusiasm and going above and beyond to establish this service. Your passion is clear to see!
Please join me in congratulating our newest team!
