The Safe Night Out Strategy is the Queensland Government’s plan to reduce alcohol and drug-related violence in Queensland’s nightlife.
Part of the strategy requires offenders to complete a one-off Drug & Alcohol Assessment and Referral (DAAR) course.
(Offenders are defined as people aged 18 years and over who have been charged with one or more of the prescribed offences, where it is alleged that the offence was committed in a public place and while intoxicated).
We are the statewide lead service provider for the DAAR program, in a consortium model which includes Drug ARM.
WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
Offenders are referred to the program as part of their bail condition.
DAAR appointments run for approximately two hours and can be offered face to face in a range of locations, or by phone for more remote clients.
The appointment includes:
- comprehensive assessment
- screening
- brief intervention
- education and referral.
DO I NEED A REFERRAL?
Yes, referrals are made by either police officers or court officers during your bail processing. You will be offered a mandatory, face-to-face or telephone appointment within a prescribed time frame as a condition of your release.
The course must be completed prior to your attendance in Court. There are occasions when you may receive a referral as part of a Court appearance.
