On 29 August 2026, the Northern Adelaide Veterans’ and Families’ Wellbeing Hub celebrated its first birthday, marking one year of connection, support and community.
The celebration brought together veterans, families, community members, organisations and supporters to reflect on the Hub’s first year and the strong community that has grown around it. Matt Burnell MP and Glenn Docherty, Mayor of the City of Playford, joined us to celebrate this important milestone and show their ongoing support for our veteran and family community.
Guests enjoyed a day filled with laughter, music, activities, food and opportunities to learn more about the services and support available to veterans and their families. It began with a beautiful Welcome to Country delivered by Cliffy “Tangku Munaitya” Wilson from Kuma Kaaru. We’re grateful to Cliffy for sharing his culture, knowledge and warm welcome with our community.
There was plenty to see and do throughout the day. Families and children enjoyed a creative art table hosted by Pamela from Human Quotient, while the Australian Army Band provided fantastic live music. Guests also enjoyed a BBQ from Operation Unity, face painting, a Star Wars display and impressive military vehicle displays from the National Military Vehicle Museum.
The celebration was made possible through the support of many community partners, businesses, volunteers and individuals. We are grateful to Military Bank, Open Arms, Defence Bank, Veterans SA, We Like To Party, Allen and The Combis, and everyone who contributed their time, resources and expertise to help make the day so special. We also thank those who generously donated prizes for the raffle, which was a huge hit with guests!

Our clients and volunteers also played an important role behind the scenes, helping with set-up, pack-down, welcoming guests and supporting activities throughout the day. Their enthusiasm and generosity helped create the warm and welcoming atmosphere that made the celebration so special.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended and celebrated with us. The first birthday was a wonderful reflection of what the Hub is all about – creating opportunities for connection, support and belonging.
We’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved over the past year and look forward to continuing to grow alongside our veteran and family community, providing connection, support and opportunities to thrive for many years to come.
