At Mirikai on the Gold Coast, lives are being turned around and potential unlocked. Our specialist residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation program is a live-in program with short, mid and long-term stay options.
Mirikai’s local Aboriginal meaning is “a place of peace”, and we acknowledge the traditional owners of its land, paying respects to local Elders, past and present…
Live-in and recover

About the program
We offer a range of choices, including short, mid and long-term addiction treatment programs. How long you stay and how many programs you complete is your choice.
Stay 28 Days
Our 28 Day Program provides intensive treatment, including one-to-one and group counselling. This comprehensive program aims to provide you with information, skills, strategies, confidence and self-understanding to help you make positive life changes and break the cycle of drug and alcohol misuse.
Other programs: Life Skills, Leadership Skills & OASIS
To cater for a range of needs and life circumstances, we also offer longer term treatment. For those wanting to continue after the 28-Day Program, you can apply for our 10-week Life Skills program. On its completion, depending on your needs, you can apply to enter our Leadership Skills program.
We also offer OASIS – an Outreach Accommodation Support & Integrated Services program to help you with temporary housing while you find your feet after your lengthy stay with us.
Our friendly and professional team has a wide range of life experience and qualifications and is made up of psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and counsellors.
We can help you access Centrelink and other government, professional and medical services if required.

WHAT IS RESIDENTIAL REHABILITATION?
Residential treatment is based on the principle that a residential setting free of alcohol and non-prescribed drugs provides a safe environment in which to address the underlying causes of dependence.
We offer a 24-hour, staffed, residential treatment program, inclusive of intensive, structured and evidence-based interventions after withdrawal from alcohol or drugs of dependence.
IS THIS A DETOX PROGRAM?
No. Mirikai is not a detoxification facility. People come to our program drug free (other than prescribed medications) and alcohol free. Many residents will have had to participate in a detox program provided by another service before they will be accepted into our program.
DO I HAVE TO BE DRUG FREE TO BE IN THE PROGRAM?
Yes. You need to be free from alcohol and illegal drugs to participate in our program.
WHAT IF I AM ON METHADONE?
We do not accept clients who are on methadone.
CAN MY CHILDREN OR FAMILY STAY WITH ME OR VISIT?
Mirikai does not allow parents in the program to have their children living with them.
However, the program offers support for family relationships and contact with children and other immediate family members is encouraged.
CAN I ACCESS OTHER SUPPORT SERVICES DURING MY STAY?
Residents can access other treatment programs that we offer, such as parenting programs, support groups and counselling for couples or families.
Our program works closely with other organisations such as mental health services, dentists, sexual health services, hospitals, Centrelink and legal services to meet each resident’s range of specific needs.
Our residents can also access Banjara – a general medical practice, which includes specialist health services. Banjara is one of our health services and is located on the same site as Mirikai.
HOW CAN I GET INTO THE PROGRAM?
First you need to make contact with Mirikai by calling 1300 727 957. Our intake officer can provide information about our program and schedule a time for an assessment. Our intake officer will ask a series of questions to understand more about you, your dependence history and which program would best suit you. They will assess your eligibility for our program and discuss the next steps.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
You are required to pay some money towards your stay, which depends on the type of benefit or payment you receive from Centrelink.
Usually, the cost amounts to 85 per cent of your Centrelink benefit.
ARE THE SERVICES CONFIDENTIAL?
Yes. Information collected by Lives Lived Well is confidential.
We help young people who are experiencing problems with drugs or alcohol. We also help people who may have a mental health condition.
